The Club’s objective is to organize women of the Ahwatukee retirement community in support of existing activities and in the creation of new activities. The benefactors of these activities shall be the Ahwatukee Recreation Center and chosen philanthropies.
The Women’s Club of the Ahwatukee Recreation Center meets on the second Monday of each month in the ARC Main Hall from September through May, unless otherwise noted. Refreshments and social time begin at 1:30 pm. The business meeting will begin at 1:45 pm followed by the monthly program. Membership fee is $10.00 per year. Membership is open to all women members of the ARC and meetings are open to everyone: members, friends and spouses. Raffle tickets for 50/50 drawings are done at each meeting with half going to the club and half to the ticket winner. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. There are currently 70 active members.
There are 6 elected board members and eight committees in the Women’s Club. For information contact President Ann Schminke, 480-893-8263 or email@example.com. Fall General Meetings: Monday, September 10, 2018 1:30 pm
Monday, October 8, 2018 1:30 pm
Monday, November 12, 2018 1:30 pm
The fall programs get started on September 10th with Lindsay Hochhalter from the i.d.e.a. Museum in Mesa bringing their "Tour in a Box." Founded in 1978, the i.d.e.a. Museum is the original fun, inspiring and educational hands-on art museum for children and families. Through the "tour" we'll see how they encourage youth with art and art-inspired activities while adding science, engineering and design-thinking in multi-sensory experiences. Developing one's creativity comes in many forms. This is a place "for your child and the child within you."
On October 8th, David Miller will join us to speak on behalf of St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance. Do you know about this amazing organization? Do you know the services they provide? Or how many non-profits in Phoenix and 13 Arizona counties they work with throughout the year? Do you know how many meals they can provide for $1.00? All this is done to meet their mission to alleviate hunger.
Our November 11th meeting will be a busy one. In addition to the election of officers during the meeting and the White Elephant Sale, there will also be a presentation of "Evolution of the Flag" by members of the American Legion Post 64 which meets here at the ARC. If you have not seen this interesting and inspiring program, or if it has been awhile, please plan to attend. What a great way to celebrate Veterans' Day!
Thank you, Barb, for your hard work scheduling such varied and entertaining programs for us to enjoy.
Monday, November 12, 2018 - White Elephant Sale during monthly Women's Club meeting. Start saving your goodies now! Will also have a program theme celebrating Veteran's Day. Mary Danforth will again chair this event.
Monday, December 10, 2018 Christmas Event - Joan Uhler is chairing the committee for the Christmas luncheon which will be held in the ARC Main Hall. The decision was made to use The Clever Chef as the caterer for the event. More information will be available in the fall.
Community Service: Babs Lester and Michaelene Eves co-chair this committee and are open for suggestions from members on which charities the Women's Club should make. Please begin now to think of worthy organizations that can use our financial help in 2018-2019.
Day Trippers - BJ Stites is the coordinator for the Day Tripper outings and has always done a great job setting up various trips into Phoenix and surrounding areas. Please contact BJ if you have ideas for future trips. All ARC members and friends are welcome to join in most activities. She is already working on ideas for day trips for our upcoming year.
Ways and Means: Peg Nelson is the chair of this committee. The function of this committee is to come up with ideas for raising money to operate the Women's Club and to enable us to provide funds to various charities in our area. Peg and her committee are working on ideas for the 2018-2019 Women's Club year. Please contact her at 309-368-1527 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have ideas or would like to help with some of the fund raising projects.
