Dear Members:

The one thing everyone can agree upon is that 2020 has been a year filled with uncertainty.  We have all had to alter our daily routines to safely navigate through the challenges presented by the Coronavirus.  Similarly, Ahwatukee Recreation Center has also had to change its practices.   The ARC has leaned upon the guidelines issued by the federal government, the State of Arizona and the CDC in order to find a safe direction for reopening the ARC.

On April 28, 2020 the Board of Directors approved a Three Phase Plan for reopening the ARC.   This plan was directly tied to the “Opening Up America Again” guidelines released by the federal government.   It provided a conservative approach for re-opening the ARC contingent upon the number of active COVID-19 cases and State of Arizona regulations.

Phase 1B, an addition to the Three Phase Plan, was approved on June 25, 2020 by the Board of Directors.  With the recently rising numbers of new COVID-19 cases in Maricopa, this plan was built upon the Three Phase Plan for safely re-introducing services to our members.  An amendment was made to the Phase 1B Plan when the State of Arizona delivered its Executive Order 2020-43 on June 29, 2020.

We will begin implementing the amended Phase 1B Plan on July 6, 2020.  At this time the ARC will return to its normal operating hours.

Monday to Saturday, 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM

The ARC will continue to limit its services to outdoor activities: the Outdoor Pool, Indoor Pool with the garage doors fully open, Pickleball Courts, Outdoor Bocce Courts, Horseshoes and Lawn Bowling.  In order to continue physical distancing protocols, at any time the Indoor Pool is limited to 4, the Outdoor Pool is limited to 10 people, and other outdoor areas at the ARC are limited to 10 people.  Members are encouraged to call (480) 893-2549 to make a pool reservation prior to coming to the ARC.  No children, nor visitors will be allowed at the ARC.  There is no lifeguard on duty and members are using the ARC facility at their own risk.

The ARC will not provide any floatation devices or water fitness equipment.  Additionally, members are encouraged to use sunscreen and bring their own water bottles.  A bottle fill station is available for member use when visiting the ARC.

All members are required to rinse off prior to entering the Indoor or Outdoor Pools.  In addition to the showers in the Locker Rooms, there is a shower available at the Indoor Pool area and an outdoor shower.

To promote a safe environment, all members are asked to wear a face covering when entering any of the ARC buildings.  Even if you are outside, face coverings should be worn whenever it is not possible to maintain physical distancing from others.  The Front Desk Attendant is happy to provide any member with a mask who enters the Main Building without a face covering.  Members are also asked to maintain social distancing from others who are not part of their household.

Hand sanitizer has been placed at the Front Desk for all members to use when entering the facility.  An additional hand sanitizing station is available in the lobby outside of the restrooms.

To ensure a safe environment for our members, the ARC has increased its cleaning and sanitization protocols, but we need your help.  We ask for the members’ patience as the maintenance staff completes periodic cleaning duties in the Locker Rooms, grounds and buildings throughout the. Most importantly, members who are ill or have been exposed to someone who is ill should stay home.

As the Coronavirus situation improves in Maricopa County we will move forward with opening more services to our members at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center.  The ARC has added links to our Three Phase Plan and Phase 1B on our web site at

Stay safe, and stay healthy.
